Hello everyone,
I downloaded and installed the AVG free antivirus program today, but for some reason, it's not working with my outlook express. Every time I try to log on to outlook, it says that there is an error. Can someone please help?

One more thing. I believe that it's my Norton firewall that's preventing AVG from connecting with Outlook Express. I think the firewall is also preventing me from getting updates for AVG. I don't want to turn the firewall off, because I need to have one. So, if anyone has any suggestions on how I can change the settings for the firewall, please let me know.

Can you please give us the error message? This is so we might be able to further isolate the issue. As far as norton firewall goes I'm sorry but not sure how to configure it. Thanks.
Troy

Okay, here's the gist of what it's saying.

The server responded with an error, (then it lists my account and mail server), then, protocol POP3, server response:'-ERR AVG POP3 Proxy
Server cannot connect to the mail server Port: (then port number), Secure (SSL):

Then it gives a couple of error numbers. I have no clue what this means, and I hope someone can help.

to configure norton firewall, go to the main norton firewall window and select personal firewall. press the button marked configure. when the config screen comes up, click on programmes, then hit the add button, this will bring you into an open file dialogue. select avg from the list of folders, then select avg.exe, or wahtever the main exe file is. hit ok. then hit ok in the main config window of norton firewall. hth.

I would also ask if you're using a router or cable modem, if you're using a router you may not really need the norton firewall, as your router may have a good enough firewall built in.

Hey, how were you able to download it and install it. I still can't seem to be able to do it.

I went to jwf's web site, and from there, went to AVG's home page and downloaded it from there. Or, you can just download it directly from JFW.
Thanks, zoo Keeper. I'll try what you said to do, and hopefully, it'll work. I'm not using a router, but I am using a cable modem.
